We have been having the most gorgeous weather here in Virginia.  This was a look a wore over the weekend just running errands with Nick.  A super loose and comfy tee is one of my favorite looks and I have become obsessed with wool hats!  They just amp up an outfit so quickly and easily.  We have been having so much fun buying new things for our new house and just spending our weekends walking around (lusting) Pottery Barn and scouring Craigslist of new furniture.  Stay tuned for the kitchen table we scored on Craigslist!

Casual and chic

I love to layer but sometimes it is just way too warm to have a blazer or a sweater, insert the vest.  I love the military feel to this vest.  I picked it up at the end of the fall season at Target.  It was perfect for a weekend.  I paired it with  some slouchy boots and a clutch to give it a little formality.

Adulting - Finding confidence in my opinions

Image result for adulting

Lately, I've come to realize that this was the "decade of decisions" for me. I decided where I was going to college, work, live, who I would marry, when to have kids, whether to rent or buy, do I REALLY need to go to Target?

Guys- I've been "Adulting".

I choose to watch the news.  I make a point to eat lots of fruits and veggies (but still binge on fries cause duh). I schedule oil changes and make sure my husband flosses. And I don't hate it!  I love the feeling of control that those responsibilities give me.

I've started to notice that I am extremely comfortable with my opinions. I have no desire to hold back my opinion on topics I feel are important.  I receive a lot of private messages on Facebook of people thanking me for standing up to Facebook bullies and trolls. I realized this came from a few things.

1. I research.  I watch the news, I have discussions, I try to think about things critically and from multiple angles before I fully back something.
2. I am humble yet confident with my intelligence and my experiences but allow for open discussion and the opportunity for someone to change my view through facts, etc..
3. I respect.  I try to support causes and topics that respect others and I try to keep my remarks respectful.  This allows me to feel good about anything that I post.
4. I have finally realized, some people are morons, they're mean, they're ignorant, they don't/won't change their views... and I don't need to worry about them.  I will continue to share my views respectfully and they can choose how to react.
5. My voice matters. It may not matter to many, but it matters to those who reach out to me in private. They may not have the confidence to proclaim certain things, but I do and I am willing to take heat for it because as reflected above, I have put time and thought into forming my opinions.

Bills suck, paying taxes suck... but "adulting" is pretty awesome and I have never felt better.  That's not to say there aren't days that I want to throat punch someone or just go home, put on yoga pants and eat pizza to forget my troubles (cause I have been there MANY times).  For the most part, having autonomy over my life and my choices is friggin awesome.

Find your confidence, find your voice, find your passions. We have so many outlets to be heard.  Utilize them for good.  Help others to find their voices and the strength to share them.  L'Oreal says it best "Cause you're worth it"!

Job interview

Blouse- Ann Taylor Similar
Skirt- Banana Republic Similar
Shoes- Banana Republic

Here is a perfect look for a job interview.
  • Keep your colors muted and textures thick
  • Iron and Dry Clean- This blouse is pure silk and wrinkles easily so it definitely needs to be steamed right before the interview
  • Choose simple textures
  • Keep it knee length or a bit longer.  This is not the time to show off too much leg and you don't want to be fidgetting in your chair
  • Be sure to check your color and cuffs to be sure they don't show signs of dirt or makeup
  • Polish your shoes, make sure they don't show scuffs or dirt
  • Keep your jewelry simple and non-distracting
  • Keep your nails clean and neat
  • Keep your hair stress free, if you tend to touch your hair a lot, pull it up and out of your face so you can keep your hands steady during the interview

His style... casual

Nick loves to look nice, and is also naturally photogenic (how annoying is that!?).  I should count that as a blessing right?  He almost never wears sweat pant and only owns one pair of pajama pants.  Thankfully, he isn't too judgmental of me wearing my leggings every night.  This is a look Nick frequents a lot. A button down with some kind of sweater and jeans.

Simple and feminine - Army green

Heels- Madewell

Aviators- Anthro

I snagged this dress at the end of the summer at J Crew.  It is so soft but sturdy.  I paired it with some leather peep toe heels and a cross body bag.  It is a perfect look to wear on the weekend running errands.  I could totally see this with an arm full of bangles or some statement earrings.

Valentine's Day - Semi-formal

Pumps- Banana Republic (similar- shiny version)

I wore this look to church on Sunday and loved how festive it felt.  I love the lace scallops that give it some texture and pulls the "dressiness" from all of the red.  I decided to pair it with nude flats and a clutch to give it a less formal vibe (than a black shoe).  I loved the idea of adding in some blush pink so I opted for these Kendra Scott earrings.  Finished off the look with a low key, retro inspired hair style.

Valentines Day- 3 of 3. Ultra casual

Beanie- Nordstrom
Sweater- Banana Republic
Jeans- Banana Republic
Boots- Hunter
Bag- Madewell

Looking for a low-key look for Valentines Day?  Pop on some red Hunter boots, a white sweater and a beanie and you are good to go.  I love that this is a no fuss look but is still festive and gives me an excuse to break out my fave boots!
